Community Fridge
We’re proud to share that St James have opened a community fridge to support local families both from our school and the wider community. Like the wise man who built his house on the rock, we want to be a strong foundation for our growing community. This initiative is rooted in our commitment to care, compassion, and community.
We want to thank Melissa Trudgill Community Engagement Lead for Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust who created the project and raised the funds from a successful grant application in partnership with Simon Cohen from Livewest. It was LiveWest's Social Value Project which works with colleagues, contractors and local communities to build the fridge shed, installed the lighting, shelves and electrics.
As our part of Okehampton continues to grow, we recognise that access to essential services, such as a local shop, remains limited. We know the community fridge will be a real help to many.
A community fridge offers both environmental and social benefits. Environmentally, it helps reduce food waste by redistributing surplus food that would otherwise go to waste. Socially, it fosters a sense of community by encouraging sharing and mutual support, while providing free access to fresh food and helping household food budgets stretch further, helping to ease food insecurity and promote inclusivity.
by our school values: Ignite, Explore, Believe… Together! We are excited to offer a space where support is available to those who need it most.
We hope our community will come together to support this initiative, whether by donating, volunteering or simply spreading the word.
Together, we can make a real difference.
