Look at the two first pages of story:

• What can you see growing there?
• What is similar about where Betha, Billy and Juliana live compared to where you live?
• What is different about  where Betha, Billy and Juliana live compared to where you live?

Use the questions below to conduct some research (you can research all of the questions or at least 2 of them)

1. Where are the Windward Islands?
2. What is it like to live there? (the climate, the surroundings, the cities / towns)
3. What are yams and sugar cane? (what do they taste like? What can you use them for? Recipes? What do they look like? How do they grow?)
4. What can we grow in our country? Why do we grow different things here than they do there?

Once you’ve conducted your research, write a summary of what you’ve learnt. Then, video your child presenting what they’re findings.  

When recording your child, try and get them to usethese sentence stems to scaffold their talk and enhance their language:

• I have learnt that…
• I have noticed that…
• When I researched, I found out that…
• I was surprised that…
• I thought that…
• I didn’t think that….. but…..
