Can the children remember any of the words they read?
Write down the first part of a word with your child:
E.g.
‘penc’ ‘il’
‘ped’ ‘al’
‘Hospit’ ‘al’
‘anim’ ‘al’
‘tow’ ‘el’
‘trav’ ‘el’
‘cam’ ‘el’
‘quarr’ ‘el’
Can they choose which il/el/al graphemes comes at the end? (You might want to write the endings on separate cards for children to choose & place next to the start of the word – like a matching game, or they can write it)
Remember that it doesn’t matter if they choose the wrong one, this is new to them and we’re exploring different ideas.
