Good morning everyone!

Well done for making it through the term. Remember if you are all getting tired to not force it and take a break today. Hopefully the wind will have eased a little today!

Continue with Bug Club. In class we will be playing the bingo game from yesterday and writing tricky words in flour.

To link with our maths today I am going to challenge the children to see how many times they can write the tricky word 'the' in one minute amongst other things!

In RE we will continue to think about how to look after our world linking with the creation story. We have thought about birds, sea creatures and now to think about forests. Here is a link to make a rainforest out of a shoebox. It might be something you could do in the holidays. Also a powerpoint to learn more about the rainforest.

Hello everyone, I have received some great home learning photographs of your letter and number formation yesterday. Well done. We are going to continue to focus on the formation of letters and numbers this week, so that the children become more confident with their writing skills. If your child is finding this difficult, there are some great pencil control resources on our school website as well as fine motor activity ideas.

https://www.stjamesokehampton.co.uk/writing-2/

Extension: If your child is now forming their letters and numbers correctly, encourage them to have a go at matching the number they write to the quantity of objects. They may want to use their toys, snack, or stones from the garden.

Literacy – Continue to work through the Talk for Writing activities at your child’s own pace. Mouses Adventure by Jane Ralphs.

Monday 25th January 2021

Good morning Butterflies Class. I hope you all had a great weekend and are looking forward to a busy week of learning ahead.

Literacy – This week we will explore a new story as part of our Talk for Writing learning pack. I would like to emphasise again that you can work through the activities at a pace that suits your child over this next week. Our story is Mouses Adventure by Jane Ralphs.
https://www.talk4writing.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/R-Mouse.pdf

Phonics – Today our focus will be letter formation. Last week you practised this using Sky Writer and very big movements. Today, use the letter formation sheet as a guide and practise writing the letters that we have learnt so far:

s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss

You can choose to write these using whatever tools and materials you wish. You may want to write using a paper and pen, paint and a brush or chalks outdoors.

This booklet starts with a story and is followed by different related activities: • Story talk• Exploring words and describing objects • Making musical instruments • Noisy animals matching game • Rhyme time • Mark making • Reading and writing words • Designing a new bandana for Max • Animal fact file • Writing a postcard • Inventing an imaginary animal and a new story.

There are plenty of activities for you to work through over the week. We will be exploring the same story in school and I am excited to see how you get on.

Phonics – Using the Phase 2 sounds we have learned, have a go at reading some cvc words in the Buried Treasure game. You will be sorting through real and alien words to help the pirates. Can you make some of your own treasure coins and write your own words on them?

On Fridays we are going to start RE. We follow the RE curriculum agreed in Devon. In Reception this is mainly focused on Christianity and moves to explore other religions as you go through the school. Equally the themes are to explore beliefs and understand what religion means to how people live their lives. Use the themes to explore different questions about life and the wider world. Our first unit this half term is Why is the word 'God' special to Christians?

Phonics - Bug Club

ActiveLearn: Login (activelearnprimary.co.uk)

We are going to go back to the start of Phase 2 and do revision sessions on Thursdays and Fridays. Please can you focus this time around on handwriting and following the instruction for forming the letter correctly. Lots of practice!!! Make sure you are accessing the additional games too as they are really useful to practice reading words fluently. Reading the books online is also a great activity as they are aligned to and reflect our reading scheme in school. The system is open for your child to make progress within it so please make the most of it. I know it isn't the same as reading a book however do try it as it will still help your child to make reading progress.

Maths Session 3 and activity

I will be setting a music activity on Thursdays. As a school we log into a system called Charanga. I am working on getting everyone a log in so you can access it at home as there are lots of fun activities on it. In the meantime please access the music lesson on the link below.
